Out of the blue

Life has a list of spontaneous miracles for every one of us. I read it in a magazine this weekend but I can’t remember exactly who said it. The name of the author is however less relevant than the truth encompassed in those few words. If you’re not currently living a miracle, have faith that the best is yet to come and chances are it will happen out of the blue.

Till then, I can’t help showing you these beautiful blue gemstones (it has to be the idiom's effect on me J):

Sapphire and Diamond Bracelet by Morelle Davidson

Sapphire and Diamond Earrings by Stephen Webster

Alexandre Reza Pendant

Victorian Diamond and Enamel Earrings

Cocktail Ring by Brumani

I'm still waiting for the miracle of having such a necklace (which is mine by the way) with real blue sapphires.

Blue sapphire rings

Did you know that blue color is associated with freedom, intuition, imagination and inspiration? Blue also represents meanings of depth, trust, loyalty, sincerity, wisdom, confidence and intelligence.

You can see both the sea and the sky in this color and it comforts you as you can find peace in it.

With this positive impact on our mind and body, how not to be in love with and wear blue gemstone jewelry? Especially when it’s about blue sapphire rings like these amazing ones:

Blue Sapphire, Diamonds and Blue Enamel Ring by Kathleen Dughi

My favorite one is Alexandra Mor's ring and my second choice goes to the Cocktail ring. Which one is your pick?

Necklaces I’d buy at Sotheby’s auction in September

I've just found out that Sotheby's is going to organize the “Important Jewels” auction this September in New York. I spent my whole weekend looking through the amazing fine jewelry that is on sale and I simply fell in love with some items.

What would I buy if I had the money? Oh God, a lot! Here are the necklaces I love the most and I promise I’ll show you soon the bracelets, rings and earrings I've chosen. The necklaces couldn't be worn alone, right?

Estimated value: 100.500 - 142.000 USD. If you wonder how much these pieces would cost...

Birthstones and recommended jewelry for you – part 1 (June – September)

Since I've noticed that the most read post on my blog is Zodiac signs and we all are so interested in this kind of stuff, I've decided to write about birthstones. Find out which gem is associated with the month you were born in and some facts about it. I’ll even recommend you an exquisite piece of jewelry with that specific gemstone.

I’ll start with June, the month we are in. The first 4 birthstones are presented below, while the next 8 ones will be shown in my next two posts. So all of you born in October – May interval stay tuned for it!

June: Pearl

* The pearl symbolizes purity, wisdom, charity and loyalty.
* In ancient Greece, it was believed that pearls had the power to prevent newly wed brides from crying and to promote happiness among all those who wore them.
* More than 2.000 years ago, ancient Chinese believed pearls had the power to perpetuate eternal youth.

July: Ruby

* Ruby has been the gem of passion and the heart's desire since the dawn of time.
* Mystics used rubies to stimulate spiritual creativity and religious devotion.
* Ancient Greek women believed that wearing ruby could bring them love and physical beauty.
* Rubies were considered the wedding stone through the Middle Ages and early Renaissance, as they were supposed to keep passion alive and promote lasting love and contentment in marriage.

August: Peridot

* Medieval alchemists used peridot in amulets to protect the wearer from demons, but by Renaissance times, peridot had become a love stone, worn to attract romance.
* It has also been alleged to encourage a positive emotional outlook on life, to prevent fear or guilt, and to help develop patience.

September: Blue Sapphire

* Blue sapphire was valued by ancient Hindu mystics as the key to developing wisdom and spiritual progress.
* The Romans thought this gem attracted divine favor to their owners.
* All through the Middle Ages, sapphires were alleged to bring a great destiny to their wearers, and were often used in court and royal jewelry.
* Alchemists believed that blue sapphires would help them develop clairvoyance, telepathy and divine wisdom.

Art Deco jewelry

The design of Art Deco jewelry (1915 - 1935) is very popular and much appreciated today as it was back then. It is defined by geometric shapes and bright colors and you will often find combinations of diamonds and colored gems like rubies, sapphires or emeralds in Art Deco jewelry.

High auction results for Art Deco creations reveal that this category is one of the most sought after jewelry.

If you're wondering why, take a look at these amazing pieces:

Van Cleef & Arpels earrings with golden and blue sapphires, diamonds and emeralds

Cartier Art Deco Aquamarine Brooch, via Pinterest

Lacloche Freres 33.06 Carat Natural, 'no heat' sapphire and diamond
And this is not all. I invite you to check out other impressive Art Deco creations on Fred Leighton's website. I came across their online platform while researching for this kind of jewelry and I found there beautiful collections of adornments from different periods of time, starting the 18th century.

Here are just three examples of what kind of jewelry you can find on their website:

Art Deco Sapphire Diamond Greek Key Bracelet Fred Leighton

Ceylon Sapphire and Diamond Pendant Earrings, circa 1950s Fred Leighton

Old European Cut Diamond and Emerald Ring, circa 1915 Fred Leighton

What’s their meaning? Part I

Have you ever wondered where the names of gems come from? What do they symbolize? In some cases, their name is really eloquent as it usually reflects the colour, but there are some stones which need to be known a little bit more in order to understand their designation.

If you’re curious to find out what the names of gems mean, please receive my invitation of reading a short series of posts on this issue. This is the first part and let’s start with:

  • The diamond’s name comes from the Greek "Adamas" meaning invincible, in reference to their extreme hardness
Via Van Cleef & Arpels - official website

Via Jacob&Co's official website

  •  Agate comes from the Latin “Achates”, referring to the river in Sicily that produced a plentiful supply of agate in ancient times
Via Pinterest - Kimberly McDonald’s Botswana agate and diamond earrings set in 18-karat white gold

Stay tuned for part II.
